The Tulsa City Council continues to hear public comments this week regarding the capital improvements projects (CIP). Bicycle and pedestrian issues have been well represented so far but it’s crucial that City leaders continue to see support for sidewalks and safe pedestrian amenities. The Accessible Transportation Coalition is specifically asking for an increased allocation of funds for arterial and non-arterial sidewalks. While sidewalks will be included in all street rehab projects, the City will still be left with a $25 million backlog of necessary sidewalk improvements. In the current proposal, arterial and non-arterial sidewalks are funded at $2 million each, hardly enough to make a dent in the backlog.
